Govern­ment reaches deal with MUMN, in­dus­trial ac­tion called off

The govern­ment has reached a deal with the Malta Union of Mid­wives and Nurses on the op­er­a­tion of the Ac­ci­dent and Emer­gency Depart­ment, and the union has called off its in­dus­trial ac­tion, a Depart­ment of In­for­ma­tion state­ment said yes­ter­day.

The agree­ment was reached af­ter the govern­ment con­ceded that the num­ber of nurses em­ployed should be in­creased. The two sides agreed that by the end of this month a train­ing course for nurses is com­pleted for them to be de­ployed in this depart­ment.

The Mater Dei hospi­tal ad­min­is­tra­tion and the MUMN will set up a work­ing group to fo­cus on train­ing for nurses and bet­ter man­age­ment of the depart­ment.
