55th edi­tion of na­tional com­pe­ti­tions

Twenty-one weeks have passed on from the end of the 2015/16 sea­son and we are only a few­days away from the new sea­son. Hours and hours of plan­ning, or­ga­ni­za­tion and hard work from the com­mit­tee over the sum­mer months to en­sure an­other suc­cess­ful sea­son for the Malta Darts As­so­ci­a­tion which is cur­rently un­der­go­ing a full re-brand­ing ex­er­cise.


Early in­di­ca­tions point towards a three horse race for the ma­jor hon­our in di­vi­sion one with cur­rent Champions Kalkara St Joseph, Flo­ri­ana Ajax A and the newly pro­moted Mosta Horse­shoe Bar A bat­tling it out to be crowned Na­tional champions. There is lit­tle to sep­a­rate the re­main­ing five teams and a fierce rel­e­ga­tion bat­tle is on the cards.

In di­vi­sion two, any­thing can hap­pen with no less than six of the eight teams pre-sea­son tar­get be­ing that of fin­ish­ing in the top two spots which en­sures pro­mo­tion to the high­est di­vi­sion.

Next sea­son will also see the re-in­tro­duc­tion of di­vi­sion three which will host all seven new teams en­rolled to take part in the na­tional leagues.

The for­mat for the top two di­vi­sion has also been re­vamped with two rounds of matches played be­fore teams are split into a Cham­pi­onship and Rel­e­ga­tion pools, with fur­ther two round played. Open­ing day fix­tures (07/10): Di­vi­sion 1 –B’Bu­gia Cox Sports Club A vs Kalkara St Joseph; Ze­j­tun Be­land Bulls­eye vs Mosta Horse­shoe Bar A; Ze­j­tun Ju­ven­tutis Do­mus vs Flo­ri­ana Ajax A; Gudja POs Bar A vs Bormla Bocci Club.

Di­vi­sion 2 -Flo­ri­ana Ajax B vs Sen­glea M. Con­quest; Cospicua Rangers vs Bugibba Munchies Pub; Mosta Bocci Club vs BBu­gia Cox Sports Club B; Ham­run Ed­u­ca­tion Bar A vs Gudja POs Bar B.

Di­vi­sion 3 - Mosta Horse­shoe Bar B vs St Pauls Di­a­monds; Mqabba St Mary BC vs Mgarr The Hatch Sports Bar; Bugibba In­ter­con­ti­nen­tal Sun City vs St. Ven­era Red Square; Ham­run Ed­u­ca­tion Bar B (Bye). First edi­tion of Pre­mier League The up­com­ing sea­son will also fea­ture a new sin­gles com­pe­ti­tion which will see nu­mer­ous lo­cal play­ers tak­ing part in qual­i­fiers dur­ing the months of Oc­to­ber and Novem­ber with the aim to se­cure one of the eight spots up for grabs in the 1st edi­tion of the Malta Pre­mier League of Darts.

At the end of this com­pe­ti­tion, the win­ner will be crowned Malta sin­gles cham­pion and will be joined by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th ranked play­ers in the of­fi­cial Mal­tese na­tional team which will be par­tic­i­pat­ing in next year’s Mediter­ranean Cup.
