‘Place of wor­ship is­sue’ not linked with re­li­gion - St Paul’s Bay coun­cil

The St Paul’s Bay coun­cil yes­ter­day in­sisted that its ob­jec­tion to hav­ing a place of wor­ship for Mus­lims in the lo­cal­ity is not linked with re­li­gion, but that the is­sue was sim­ply a mat­ter of public or­der.

In a state­ment, the coun­cil said it wanted to clar­ify its po­si­tion that re­cent mat­ters which have arisen re­gard­ing a place of wor­ship in the lo­cal­ity “are not in any way linked to is­sues of re­li­gion”.

The venue is un­suited to such use due to public or­der.

The Lo­cal Coun­cil of Saint Paul’s Bay af­firmed its com­mit­ment to all the peo­ple of the lo­cal­ity and their di­verse per­spec­tives, opin­ions, and be­liefs.
