Con­di­tional dis­charge for teenagers who had un­der­age sex

Two teenagers – a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl – were charged yes­ter­day for hav­ing had un­der­age sex. Po­lice were alerted to the case by the girl, who had ini­tially claimed rape. It later tran­spired that the sex had been con­sen­sual.

The teenagers were ar­raigned by Po­lice In­spec­tor Joseph Busut­til.

The girl was found guilty but the court, tak­ing her age into con­sid­er­a­tion, con­di­tion­ally dis­charged her for three years.

The boy also ad­mit­ted to the charge of un­der­age sex. He was also given a three-year con­di­tional dis­charge by Mag­is­trate Mon­ica Vella.

The case is be­ing fol­lowed up by Agen­z­ija Ap­pogg.

Lawyer Marc Mif­sud Cu­ta­jar ap­peared for the girl while Dr Peter Fenech ap­peared for the boy.
