Liverpool held to a draw by Man United, miss chance to go top

Malta Independent - - SPORT -

Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by Man United yesterday thus missing the chance to join leaders Manchester City and Arsenal at the top.

The match fell far below expectations. The first half, especially, was rather poor and lacked thrilling moments.

The match was heading in the same direction in the second until the 55th minute when Ibrahimovic failed to head home from eight metres after a fine cross by Paul Pogba.

At the other end, it was goalkeeper De Gea who saved United’s fort with a massive save following a close range effort from Emre Can.

In the 82nd minute, Philippe Coutinho flicked the ball around the corner to send Roberto Firmino into the penalty area, but Antonio Valencia made an excellent sliding tackle, perfectly timed and executed.
