Deserved win for Gozo against Tarxien
Tarxien Gozo 0 2
The Gozitans were the better outfit during the whole game as they dictated matters for long stetches. They have now qualified for the Group of 16.
The first two actions were created by Gozo. Mario Theuma released Damel Cassar in the area and Tarxien keeper Jean P Caruana foiled him with a timely sortie and Karl Formosa entered the area after receiving the ball from a long drop-kick by keeper Kyle Attard who missed the upright after entering the area.
In Tarxien’s first action Dylan Debono served Bassam Mohammed with a through ball in the area but Gozo keeper Kyle Attard foiled him with a timely sortie.
The pressure from Gozo resumed. Theuma released Cassar in the area and after Caruana partly saved his shot the ball was cleared away.
From a Formosa flag kick the ball was cleared on the line from a shot by Theuma. Gianluca Muscat then dribbled past an opponent outside the area and Caruana had to dive and save to a corner his shot from the distance.
Three minutes before the break, Gozo opened the score when after a flag kick by Cassar, Joseph Xerri scored with a header.
Four minutes after the restart Gozo doubled their lead as Muscat served Cassar in the area and he scored with a hard grounder. Minutes later Caruana saved a Xerri header from close-range after a cross from the left flank by Formosa.
Tarxien then mounted two actions. Colin Golino was fouled outside the area and Attard saved the free kick by Kyle Genovese to a corner. Then, after a flag kick by Joelan Frendo, Miguel Mangion headed just over the bar.
The last action before the end was created by Gozo as Xerri dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and after his cross in the area, Owen Grech missed the upright by inches.
