Ser­bian man ar­raigned in court fol­low­ing a string of thefts in St Paul’s Bay

A 32-year-old Ser­bian man, res­i­dent of St Paul’s Bay, was ar­raigned in court yes­ter­day morn­ing in con­nec­tion with a string of thefts and dam­ages af­ter he was spot­ted break­ing into a ve­hi­cle.

The in­ci­dent took place on 19 Oc­to­ber at around 1.15pm. Eye­wit­nesses spot­ted the ac­cused, Cur­guz Dra­gan, break­ing into a Toy­ota and im­me­di­ately called the po­lice.

Upon ar­riv­ing at the scene, the ac­cused made a run for it and en­tered the home of an elderly woman in an at­tempt to hide from the po­lice.

The ac­cused is charged with a num­ber of thefts, such as steal­ing bot­tles of al­co­hol from two sep­a­rate St Paul’s Bay restau­rants, elec­tron­ics and cash from another ve­hi­cle, bank state­ments from a third ve­hi­cle and dam­ag­ing the be­long­ings of a num­ber of peo­ple.

Au­thor­i­ties found him in­side the home and promptly ar­rested him. The ac­cused pleaded not guilty. Lawyer Yanika Bugeja de­fended the ac­cused while In­spec­tor God­win Scerri pros­e­cuted. Mag­is­trate Josette Demi­coli presided over the case.
