Goz­i­tan sides im­press in sec­ond round

San Gwann had an easy pas­sage to the 3rd round of the Malta FA Tro­phy with a 4-0 win over Marsaxlokk at the Cen­te­nary Sta­dium.

Nezar Faw­shi Abouhaishia scored a brace on 1 and 27 min­utes with the other goals com­ing from Jonathan Bugeja and Niko­lai Bickle. Zeb­bug Rangers beat Fgura by two goals to nil with goals by Tomis­lav Tre­bo­vac and Charles Ikanecheu on 18 and 87 min­utes re­spec­tively.

Gharghur notched up a record score against Munxar Fal­cons beat­ing the Goz­i­tan min­nows by eight goals to nil at the Gozo Sta­dium. Sousa Mar­tins da Silva scored a hat trick while Carlo Gie scored a brace with the other goals com­ing from Luke Busut­til, Wil­liam Bar­bosa and Ni­co­lai Da Lima.

In a pul­sat­ing match at the Luxol Sta­dium, Mel­lieha and Birzeb­bu­gia played out ex­tra time and penal­ties with the Saints go­ing through 5-3 on penal­ties. Shami­son Far­ru­gia put Mel­lieha ahead after 6 min­utes with Shawn Dar­manin equal­is­ing for Birzeb­bu­gia on 44 min­utes. After 90 min­utes fin­ish­ing 1-1, Mi­los Jan­ic­je­vic put Mel­lieha ahead on 97 min­utes with Ron­nie Ce­leste equal­is­ing in teh dy­ing sec­onds of ex­tra time.

In the first match at the Cen­te­nary Sta­dium, Vit­to­riosa Stars crushed At­tard FC to the tune of five goals to one. Fi­raz Aboulezz put At­tard ahead after just 10 min­utes from the penalty spot but Vit­to­riosa roared back with four goals from the ir­re­press­ible Fabio Dhrami and an­other strike from Duncan Pisani.

Swieqi United dis­posed of Gudja United in the first match at the Luxol Sta­dium by three goals to nil. Ken­neth Ezekie scored a brace on 55 and 70 min­utes with Jon Al­lan Maragrit adding an­other five min­utes from time.

Nadur Young­sters eas­ily beat Ghaxaq by four goals to nil in the first match at the Sirens Sta­dium with the goals com­ing from Bren­dan said on 38 min­utes, Clau­dio An­tunes on 44 and 77 min­utes and Da­vide dos San­tos in added time.

Qrendi over­turned the result against Or­a­tory Youths beat­ing the Goz­i­tans 2-1 with an in­jury time goal scored by Bashiro Imole. An­drea Cu­ta­jar put Or­a­tory ahead after 10 min­utes with Dasser Sam­mut equal­is­ing on 79 min­utes for Qrendi be­fore the drama.

Pi­eta’ Hot­spurs beat Kirkop through a soli­tary goal scored by Jor­dan Dim­itrov on 47 min­utes in the sec­ond match at the Sirens Sta­dium.

Mgarr United beat Zab­bar by two goals to one with a brace by Lazar Doric on 64 and 81 min­utes with the Saints re­duc­ing the deficit two min­utes from time through Shalon Di­a­cono.

Sirens also beat Rabat Ajax by the iden­ti­cal score of two goals to one in the sec­ond match at the Cen­te­nary Sta­dium. Orosco Anonam and Leonardo Gabriele put Sirens 2-0 up after 48 and 79 min­utes with Jay Good­man re­duc­ing the deficit from the penalty spot on 87 min­utes.

Sig­giewi beat St Ge­orge’s by three goals to two in a dra­matic and action packed en­counter that also went to ex­tra time and with four play­ers be­ing sent off, three from St Ge­orge’s. An­thony Chike Eze put St Ge­orge’s ahead after 64 min­utes but Dider Sohna equalised for Sig­giewi on 88 min­utes. Sam Vella made it 3-1 on 96 and 115 min­utes with Eze scor­ing again a minute from time.

Lija Ath­letic cruised to the Third Round when they crushed Goz­i­tan side St Lau­rence Spurs by five goals to nil. Ai­den Galea scored a hat trick in the 17th, 64th and 83rd minute with the last goal from the penalty spot. Jorge Gar­cia Vi­dal added an­other on 73 min­utes with Pe­drag Babic scor­ing from the penalty spot on 84 min­utes.

In an­other rout, Sen­glea Ath­letic de­stroyed Xaghra United by seven goals to one in the first match at the Sirens Sta­dium. Jun­inho Cabral and Au­gustin James Obaje scored braces with the other Sen­glea goals com­ing from Marcelo de Souza, Ken­neth Abela and Ryan Dalli. Tushe scored a con­so­la­tion goal for Xaghra United.

In the first match at the Gozo Sta­dium, Marsa qual­i­fied when they beat Kercem Ajax on penal­ties 5-3 after draw­ing the en­counter 3-3. Marsa took a two goal lead through An­drade Al­varez after 44 min­utes with Luis An­dre de Melo dou­bling the score after 47 min­utes. Kercem equalised in dra­matic fash­ion through Trayo Grozev and Olyen Roljovic, the lat­ter through a penalty in added time. Yes­sous Camil­leri put Marsa ahead yet again on 95 min­utes with Luis An­dre de Melo miss­ing a penalty and a chance to close off the en­counter. Philip Tay­lor equalised yet again on 117 min­utes with Marsa even­tu­ally win­ning on penal­ties.

SK Vic­to­ria Wan­der­ers man­aged to make it to the Third Round when they beat Melita by two goals to one. Mi­lanko Raskovic and Djor­dan Draskovic scored for Vic­to­ria on 6 and 36 min­utes with Matthew Groves re­duc­ing the deficit on the hour.

In the mean­time, Mqabba had to fight hard to over­come a brave Msida St Joseph by a soli­tary goal scored by Leon­tiv Konda at the Charles Abela Sta­dium.

Also, Xewk­ija Tigers and Ghan­sielem beat Qormi and Naxxar Lions by the iden­ti­cal score of four goals to one. Daniel Bog­danovic scored on 27 and 82 min­utes, Thi­ago Melo dos San­tos on 49 min­utes, and an Alan Abela own goal scored for Xewk­ija with Lawrence Chi­dozie scor­ing for Qormi on 84 min­utes. San­doval Guerin on 32, Johnny Camil­leri on 40 Da­mon Hili on 44 min­utes, and Rafael Kooh Sohna on 83 scored for Gha­jn­sielem while Lu­bos Adamec pulled one back for Naxxar on 64 min­utes.

In an­other match that went the whole hog, Vic­to­ria Hot­spurs knocked out Ze­j­tun Corinthi­ans 4-3 on penal­ties with the match end­ing 1-1 after ex­tra time. Alan Tabone gave Ze­j­tun the lead on 12 min­utes from the penalty spot with Miguel Mon­tano equal­is­ing on 88 min­utes.
