Gozitan sides impress in second round
San Gwann had an easy passage to the 3rd round of the Malta FA Trophy with a 4-0 win over Marsaxlokk at the Centenary Stadium.
Nezar Fawshi Abouhaishia scored a brace on 1 and 27 minutes with the other goals coming from Jonathan Bugeja and Nikolai Bickle. Zebbug Rangers beat Fgura by two goals to nil with goals by Tomislav Trebovac and Charles Ikanecheu on 18 and 87 minutes respectively.
Gharghur notched up a record score against Munxar Falcons beating the Gozitan minnows by eight goals to nil at the Gozo Stadium. Sousa Martins da Silva scored a hat trick while Carlo Gie scored a brace with the other goals coming from Luke Busuttil, William Barbosa and Nicolai Da Lima.
In a pulsating match at the Luxol Stadium, Mellieha and Birzebbugia played out extra time and penalties with the Saints going through 5-3 on penalties. Shamison Farrugia put Mellieha ahead after 6 minutes with Shawn Darmanin equalising for Birzebbugia on 44 minutes. After 90 minutes finishing 1-1, Milos Janicjevic put Mellieha ahead on 97 minutes with Ronnie Celeste equalising in teh dying seconds of extra time.
In the first match at the Centenary Stadium, Vittoriosa Stars crushed Attard FC to the tune of five goals to one. Firaz Aboulezz put Attard ahead after just 10 minutes from the penalty spot but Vittoriosa roared back with four goals from the irrepressible Fabio Dhrami and another strike from Duncan Pisani.
Swieqi United disposed of Gudja United in the first match at the Luxol Stadium by three goals to nil. Kenneth Ezekie scored a brace on 55 and 70 minutes with Jon Allan Maragrit adding another five minutes from time.
Nadur Youngsters easily beat Ghaxaq by four goals to nil in the first match at the Sirens Stadium with the goals coming from Brendan said on 38 minutes, Claudio Antunes on 44 and 77 minutes and Davide dos Santos in added time.
Qrendi overturned the result against Oratory Youths beating the Gozitans 2-1 with an injury time goal scored by Bashiro Imole. Andrea Cutajar put Oratory ahead after 10 minutes with Dasser Sammut equalising on 79 minutes for Qrendi before the drama.
Pieta’ Hotspurs beat Kirkop through a solitary goal scored by Jordan Dimitrov on 47 minutes in the second match at the Sirens Stadium.
Mgarr United beat Zabbar by two goals to one with a brace by Lazar Doric on 64 and 81 minutes with the Saints reducing the deficit two minutes from time through Shalon Diacono.
Sirens also beat Rabat Ajax by the identical score of two goals to one in the second match at the Centenary Stadium. Orosco Anonam and Leonardo Gabriele put Sirens 2-0 up after 48 and 79 minutes with Jay Goodman reducing the deficit from the penalty spot on 87 minutes.
Siggiewi beat St George’s by three goals to two in a dramatic and action packed encounter that also went to extra time and with four players being sent off, three from St George’s. Anthony Chike Eze put St George’s ahead after 64 minutes but Dider Sohna equalised for Siggiewi on 88 minutes. Sam Vella made it 3-1 on 96 and 115 minutes with Eze scoring again a minute from time.
Lija Athletic cruised to the Third Round when they crushed Gozitan side St Laurence Spurs by five goals to nil. Aiden Galea scored a hat trick in the 17th, 64th and 83rd minute with the last goal from the penalty spot. Jorge Garcia Vidal added another on 73 minutes with Pedrag Babic scoring from the penalty spot on 84 minutes.
In another rout, Senglea Athletic destroyed Xaghra United by seven goals to one in the first match at the Sirens Stadium. Juninho Cabral and Augustin James Obaje scored braces with the other Senglea goals coming from Marcelo de Souza, Kenneth Abela and Ryan Dalli. Tushe scored a consolation goal for Xaghra United.
In the first match at the Gozo Stadium, Marsa qualified when they beat Kercem Ajax on penalties 5-3 after drawing the encounter 3-3. Marsa took a two goal lead through Andrade Alvarez after 44 minutes with Luis Andre de Melo doubling the score after 47 minutes. Kercem equalised in dramatic fashion through Trayo Grozev and Olyen Roljovic, the latter through a penalty in added time. Yessous Camilleri put Marsa ahead yet again on 95 minutes with Luis Andre de Melo missing a penalty and a chance to close off the encounter. Philip Taylor equalised yet again on 117 minutes with Marsa eventually winning on penalties.
SK Victoria Wanderers managed to make it to the Third Round when they beat Melita by two goals to one. Milanko Raskovic and Djordan Draskovic scored for Victoria on 6 and 36 minutes with Matthew Groves reducing the deficit on the hour.
In the meantime, Mqabba had to fight hard to overcome a brave Msida St Joseph by a solitary goal scored by Leontiv Konda at the Charles Abela Stadium.
Also, Xewkija Tigers and Ghansielem beat Qormi and Naxxar Lions by the identical score of four goals to one. Daniel Bogdanovic scored on 27 and 82 minutes, Thiago Melo dos Santos on 49 minutes, and an Alan Abela own goal scored for Xewkija with Lawrence Chidozie scoring for Qormi on 84 minutes. Sandoval Guerin on 32, Johnny Camilleri on 40 Damon Hili on 44 minutes, and Rafael Kooh Sohna on 83 scored for Ghajnsielem while Lubos Adamec pulled one back for Naxxar on 64 minutes.
In another match that went the whole hog, Victoria Hotspurs knocked out Zejtun Corinthians 4-3 on penalties with the match ending 1-1 after extra time. Alan Tabone gave Zejtun the lead on 12 minutes from the penalty spot with Miguel Montano equalising on 88 minutes.
