Mixed re­sults for Mal­tese play­ers at world cham­pi­onship qual­i­fier

At the week­end, a group of 21 play­ers trav­elled to Avila in Spain to take part in the PDC World Darts Cham­pi­onship qual­i­fier with mixed re­sults recorded for the Mal­tese play­ers.

In all, 333 play­ers par­tic­i­pated in this event com­ing from coun­tries sit­u­ated in the Southern hemi­sphere of Europe.

The best Mal­tese re­sults were reg­is­tered by God­frey Abela and Nor­bert At­tard who reached the last 32 stage and Al­bert Scerri and Paul Sam­mut reach­ing the last 64 stage.

The even­tual com­pe­ti­tion win­ner was John Michael of Greece, a player well known lo­cally as he has been crowned Malta Open cham­pion on three oc­ca­sions (2004; 2007; 2012).

This win means that Michael will fea­ture in the pre­lim­i­nary round of the World Darts Cham­pi­onship at the Alexan­dra Palace, Lon­don, in De­cem­ber.

5-a-side com­pe­ti­tion

The se­cond round of matches from the 5 a-side cup com­pe­ti­tion were as fol­lows:

Group A: Ham­run Ed­u­ca­tion Bar B v Flo­ri­ana Ajax A 0-5; Cospicua Rangers v Bormla Bocci Club 2-3.

Group B: Gudja POs Bar B v Mosta Horse­shoe Bar A 0-5; St Ven­era Red Square v Mqabba St Mary BC 3-2; Ze­j­tun Ju­ven­tutis Do­mus v St Paul`s Di­a­monds 5-0.

Group C: Flo­ri­ana Ajax B v Ham­run Ed­u­ca­tion Bar A 2-3; Mosta Horse­shoe Bar B v Mgarr The Hatch Sports Bar 5-0.

Group D: Mosta Bocci Club v Gudja POs Bar A 2-3; Mosta Horse­shoe Bar C v BBu­gia Cox Sports Club 2-3; Flo­ri­ana Ajax C v Ze­j­tun Be­land Bulls­eye 0-5.
