Mixed results for Maltese players at world championship qualifier
At the weekend, a group of 21 players travelled to Avila in Spain to take part in the PDC World Darts Championship qualifier with mixed results recorded for the Maltese players.
In all, 333 players participated in this event coming from countries situated in the Southern hemisphere of Europe.
The best Maltese results were registered by Godfrey Abela and Norbert Attard who reached the last 32 stage and Albert Scerri and Paul Sammut reaching the last 64 stage.
The eventual competition winner was John Michael of Greece, a player well known locally as he has been crowned Malta Open champion on three occasions (2004; 2007; 2012).
This win means that Michael will feature in the preliminary round of the World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace, London, in December.
5-a-side competition
The second round of matches from the 5 a-side cup competition were as follows:
Group A: Hamrun Education Bar B v Floriana Ajax A 0-5; Cospicua Rangers v Bormla Bocci Club 2-3.
Group B: Gudja POs Bar B v Mosta Horseshoe Bar A 0-5; St Venera Red Square v Mqabba St Mary BC 3-2; Zejtun Juventutis Domus v St Paul`s Diamonds 5-0.
Group C: Floriana Ajax B v Hamrun Education Bar A 2-3; Mosta Horseshoe Bar B v Mgarr The Hatch Sports Bar 5-0.
Group D: Mosta Bocci Club v Gudja POs Bar A 2-3; Mosta Horseshoe Bar C v BBugia Cox Sports Club 2-3; Floriana Ajax C v Zejtun Beland Bullseye 0-5.
