The DH national championship organised by the Malta Mountain Bike Association and sponsored by Wheel Wizard was held at Selmun. Eighteen riders took part in this event which was also valid for the National Point Series. The sizeable crowd present and stretching all along the 1.4km DH course down to the very bottom added to the excitement and colorful atmosphere. Run no.1 saw each rider thundering down the course at one minute intervals from each other – certainly not for the faint hearted with the first three best timings clocking in at barely 3 secs from each other. Confidence among the riders was now high with all aiming at improving on their previous run and gaining those precious seconds – Damian Camilleri (MTB MALTA) gave an impressive display of quick and sharp reflexes and extreme control to finish 1st to claim the national championship title with a best timing of1:02:06. Jonathan Darmanin (MTB MALTA) placed 2nd with a best timing of 1:03:08 capping yet another good performance following his win at the first NPS meeting. 3rd placed Wayne Schembri (MTB MALTA) confirmed his good and consistent form with a best of 1:03:20 Gabz Veneziani was the sole contestant in the ladies category putting an impressive best run at 1:36:72.
