Opera week­end at Teatru As­tra

This week­end, Teatru As­tra show­cases the high­light of its artis­tic cal­en­dar, with two per­for­mances of Verdi’s grand opera Aida the last be­ing this evening.

This will be the third time that As­tra will be pro­duc­ing this opera, the first time be­ing in 1988. A lux­ury cast has been se­lected to sing the main roles, namely, Silva dalla Benetta in the ti­tle role, An­tonino In­ter­isano as Radames, Sanya Anas­ta­sia as Am­neris, De­vid Cec­coni as Amonasro, Carlo Colom­bara as Ram­fis, Petri Lin­droos as the King, and Ge­orgina Stal­bow as the High Priest­ess.

The Malta Phil­har­monic Orches­tra will be un­der the di­rec­tion of As­tra’s Mu­si­cal Di­rec­tor, Joseph Vella, and the artis­tic di­rec­tion is in the hands of En­rico St­inchelli.

To com­ple­ment the per­for­mances of Aida, opera his­to­rian Dr Abra­ham Borg will give a lec­ture on Verdi’s mas­ter­piece to­day at 10am.
