MotoGP - Marquez fastest despite gastroenteritis

World champion Marc Marquez set the pace on a damp opening day at the Malaysian MotoGP, despite missing the afternoon session.' The Repsol Honda star led a patchy FP1 session by 0.268s from Suzuki's Maverick Vinales before the weather took a turn for the worse in the form of a heavy rain storm. That prompted the Spaniard, battling gastroenteritis for the past two days and already weakened by riding in FP1, to sit out the slower afternoon session, in which the track surface gradually dried after rainfall at midday. "In the morning I didn't feel very well, I've had gastroenteritis for the last two days - but I was able to go out and ride even though I was not at 100%," Marquez said. "After the session and the effort I put in, I began feeling worse, because gastroenteritis also dehydrates you."
