Liver­pool striker Ings hurts knee, out for up to 9 months

Liver­pool striker Danny Ings has been ruled out for up to nine months af­ter hurt­ing his right knee in the lat­est in­jury to set back his ca­reer. Ings dam­aged car­ti­lage in his knee when at­tempt­ing to make a tackle late in Liver­pool’s 2-1 win over Tot­ten­ham in the English League Cup last week. He will un­dergo surgery yes­ter­day and Liver­pool said he will be out for seven to nine months, mean­ing his sea­son is over. The 24-year-old Ings missed most of last sea­son af­ter an an­te­rior cru­ci­ate lig­a­ment in­jury in his left knee. Liver­pool man­ager Juer­gen Klopp said, “To say we are gut­ted would be an un­der­state­ment. He is such a great boy and has worked so hard that he de­serves bet­ter luck than this.”
