SportMalta set to ap­peal court judge­ment award­ing com­pen­sa­tion to in­jured swim­mer

SportMalta is set to ap­peal a court judge­ment in which a swim­mer was given a €13,000 com­pen­sa­tion for in­juries sus­tained while swim­ming at the na­tional pool.

In a let­ter sent to The Malta In­de­pen­dent fol­low­ing the pub­li­ca­tion of a court judge­ment, SportMalta said when the in­ci­dent hap­pened over five years ago, SportMalta was not re­spon­si­ble for the up­keep of the Na­tional Pool.

The en­ti­ties re­spon­si­ble at the time were the Kun­sill Malti għal­liS­port and the Aquatic Sports As­so­ci­a­tion.

“More­over it is not true that SportMalta does not ad­here to its obli­ga­tions to keep peo­ple’s safety first. Over the past three years, SportMalta has em­barked on a ma­jor in­fras­truc­tural project with over five mil­lion eu­ros in­vest­ment to re­store a state-of-the-art venue that was left to de­te­ri­o­rate since its open­ing. SportMalta is com­mit­ted to pro­vide the best ser­vice to its clients in the safest en­vi­ron­ment pos­si­ble by meet­ing all safety rules and reg­u­la­tions.”
