Sirens back to winning ways

Malta Independent - - SPORT -

A Miguel Ciantar goal in the second half was enough for Sirens to beat Pieta and return to winning ways after two consecutive defeats.

It was a deserved win in an interesting affair, with Sirens showing the better ideas especially in the second half.

Minutes later Christian Caruana tried his luck from just outside the box with the ball finishing slightly over the bar.

Pieta’s first shot at goal came on 17 minutes through Neil Pace Cocks whose effort however went wide.

On 23 minutes a Miguel Ciantar freekick was brilliantly saved by Jacob Chircop.

After this shot the game had a quite patch with practically no shots at goal. On 33 minutes Pieta went close with a Gabriel Mensah shot from the edge of the area that was deflected to a corner by a Sirens defender and from the same corner Mensah was first on the ball but his header went wide.

On 58 minutes Sirens forged ahead when a Vaduva shot was partially saved by Chircop and from the rebound Miguel Ciantar was on hand to hammer the ball home.

Sirens held the upper hand for the rest of the game with Pieta only coming close on 89 minutes when Jan Busuttil’s effort was saved by Cini with the ball finishing against the upright.
