PN claims blatant abuse of power in department under the responsibility of Deborah Schembri

Malta Independent - - NEWS - Julian Bonnici

The Nationalist party called on the Commissioner of Data Protection to investigate the “blatant abuse of power” in the department of government property which is under the responsibility of Parliamentary Secretary Deborah Schembri.

The PN statement, released by Shadow Minister of Justice Jason Azzopardi, and opposition MPs Clyde Puli and Ryan Callus, responded to reports in the media that tenants who rent from the department of government property, also received an envelope requesting for financial donations to the Labour Party.

This, they said, was symptomatic of a “wholly corrupt totalitarian mindset” since the Labour Party had been using government department as a political tool whilst also violating data protection laws.

The department, which falls under the political responsibility of Deborah Schembri and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, was also at the centre of the Cafe Premier and Gaffarena scandals.

The Nationalist Party called for Schembri to respond to the accusations instead of ignoring her responsibilities as she had done with the Paceville Masterplan.
