The sen­sa­tional ti­tle “INDEPTH: My fa­ther died un­der Lorry Sant… could I ever vote Labour? – Astrid Vella” as pub­lished on­line (3 Novem­ber , 17:55) was not in keep­ing

with the usu­ally high stan­dard of re­port­ing in the In­de­pen­dent.

Such a ti­tle only served to in­ten­sify our un­healthy po­lit­i­cal po­lar­i­sa­tion and ob­ses­sion with la­belling peo­ple ac­cord­ing to their po­lit­i­cal per­sua­sion. It cer­tainly have rise to a tor­rent of dis­agree­able com­ments on your web­site.

It needs to be made clear yet again that Non-Gov­ern­men­tal Or­gan­i­sa­tions are non-po­lit­i­cal and that there is no place for stir­ring up un­healthy spec­u­la­tion in news­pa­pers about peo­ples vot­ing his­tory in a se­ri­ous news­pa­per. This also dis­tracts from the is­sue un­der de­bate.
