Angelo Chetcuti to replace Bjorn Vassallo as MFA general secretary
Angelo Chetcuti was yesterday appointed general secretary of the Malta FA. He will be replacing Bjorn Vassallo who resigned late last month to move on to a more prestigious job at FIFA, the world governing body, as director of the European member associations.
Malta FA president Norman Darmanin Demajo nominated Dr Chetcuti to fill the post and his recommendation was approved by MFA Council members during yesterday afternoon’s Council meeting.
Dr Chetcuti is the vice-president of Second Division club Birzebbuga St Peter’s, and is also a member of the MFA Executive Committee and the Council.
He will start his new job as MFA general secretary on 1. December.
A lawyer by profession, the 36-year-old Dr Chetcuti is married with two children.
The MFA will now have another job, that of finding a replacement for Dr Chris Bonett who also quit his post as MFA vice-president after accepting an offer to become integrity officer at UEFA.
This, however, has to be made through an election, which will be held on 6 December during an extraordinary general meeting of the association.
