An­gelo Chet­cuti to re­place Bjorn Vas­sallo as MFA gen­eral sec­re­tary

An­gelo Chet­cuti was yes­ter­day ap­pointed gen­eral sec­re­tary of the Malta FA. He will be re­plac­ing Bjorn Vas­sallo who re­signed late last month to move on to a more pres­ti­gious job at FIFA, the world govern­ing body, as direc­tor of the Euro­pean mem­ber as­so­ci­a­tions.

Malta FA pres­i­dent Nor­man Dar­manin De­majo nom­i­nated Dr Chet­cuti to fill the post and his rec­om­men­da­tion was ap­proved by MFA Coun­cil mem­bers dur­ing yes­ter­day af­ter­noon’s Coun­cil meet­ing.

Dr Chet­cuti is the vice-pres­i­dent of Sec­ond Divi­sion club Birzeb­buga St Peter’s, and is also a mem­ber of the MFA Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee and the Coun­cil.

He will start his new job as MFA gen­eral sec­re­tary on 1. De­cem­ber.

A lawyer by pro­fes­sion, the 36-year-old Dr Chet­cuti is mar­ried with two chil­dren.

The MFA will now have an­other job, that of find­ing a re­place­ment for Dr Chris Bonett who also quit his post as MFA vice-pres­i­dent af­ter ac­cept­ing an of­fer to be­come in­tegrity of­fi­cer at UEFA.

This, how­ever, has to be made through an elec­tion, which will be held on 6 De­cem­ber dur­ing an ex­tra­or­di­nary gen­eral meet­ing of the as­so­ci­a­tion.
