Biggest chess event set to start tomorrow
Malta’s biggest chess event is set to start tomorrow with 250 players from over 40 countries participating.
No less than 220 of them will be travelling to Malta specifically for the 7-day event being held at the Imperial Hotel in Sliema. Some of those taking part are coming from far away USA, India, and Mongolia.
Among them are 6 Grand Masters and 7 International Masters who will be vying for the 4,500 Euro prize fund. Amateurs can also seek glory as there are several prizes for every category.
Orangised by Clarence Psaila, together with the collaboration of Chessorg.de, the event has grown steadily both in numbers and international recognition and was fully booked a month in advance.
It has attracted attention from abroad with the famous London Chess shop - Chess and Bridge deciding to offer each participant a free chess magazine from their subscription listed items.
It has also caught the eye locally, as the Russian owned Tel’in Art Gallery located in Ta’ Xbiex will be exhibiting artwork during the tournament.
There will be good coverage of the tournament on international websites and local news and chess portals in Germany, Sweden, England, Italy and several other countries.
The event is made possible due to the financial support given by the Malta Tourism Authority and Marion Mizzi Wellbeing.
