Sizeable fleet taking part in BOV Gozo regatta
A sizeable fleet - 15 had registered for participation - are taking part in the BOV Gozo Regatta 2016. Organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, the BOV Gozo regatta is a popular event among Maltese sailors, with a combination of sailing and social events that are welcomed after the hectic build-up to the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
The BOV Gozo Regatta is a three day race, this year being held between yesterday and tomorrow. Racing started yesterday afternoon, when crews raced from Marsamxett Harbour to Mgarr Harbour. They will now participate in a series of coastal races today and cross the channel back to Malta tomorrow.
“The BOV Gozo Regatta has always been a popular event with crews and this year is no exception. Although crews take racing very seriously, evening social events are another matter when family and friends get together to mingle and relax”, commented Godwin Zammit, RMYC Commodore.
Charles Azzopardi, Head PR and Marketing at Bank of Valletta accompanied RMYC Commodore Godwin Zammit during the traditional Skippers Briefing. ‘We are delighted to see both familiar faces and new ones among the participating fleet’ said Mr Azzopardi. ‘As a major supporter of local sporting initiatives, Bank of Valletta takes this opportunity to augur the best sailing conditions for the race.’
This race is open to IRC rated boats within a racing and cruising division. An RMYC Cruising Class is also available for non IRC rated boats, with a special rating being given by the race committee.
