Size­able fleet tak­ing part in BOV Gozo re­gatta

A size­able fleet - 15 had reg­is­tered for par­tic­i­pa­tion - are tak­ing part in the BOV Gozo Re­gatta 2016. Or­gan­ised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, the BOV Gozo re­gatta is a pop­u­lar event among Mal­tese sailors, with a com­bi­na­tion of sail­ing and so­cial events that are wel­comed af­ter the hec­tic build-up to the Rolex Mid­dle Sea Race.

The BOV Gozo Re­gatta is a three day race, this year be­ing held be­tween yes­ter­day and to­mor­row. Rac­ing started yes­ter­day af­ter­noon, when crews raced from Marsamx­ett Har­bour to Mgarr Har­bour. They will now par­tic­i­pate in a se­ries of coastal races to­day and cross the chan­nel back to Malta to­mor­row.

“The BOV Gozo Re­gatta has al­ways been a pop­u­lar event with crews and this year is no ex­cep­tion. Although crews take rac­ing very se­ri­ously, evening so­cial events are an­other mat­ter when fam­ily and friends get to­gether to min­gle and re­lax”, com­mented God­win Zam­mit, RMYC Com­modore.

Charles Az­zopardi, Head PR and Mar­ket­ing at Bank of Val­letta ac­com­pa­nied RMYC Com­modore God­win Zam­mit dur­ing the tra­di­tional Skip­pers Brief­ing. ‘We are de­lighted to see both fa­mil­iar faces and new ones among the par­tic­i­pat­ing fleet’ said Mr Az­zopardi. ‘As a ma­jor sup­porter of lo­cal sport­ing ini­tia­tives, Bank of Val­letta takes this op­por­tu­nity to au­gur the best sail­ing con­di­tions for the race.’

This race is open to IRC rated boats within a rac­ing and cruis­ing divi­sion. An RMYC Cruis­ing Class is also avail­able for non IRC rated boats, with a spe­cial rating be­ing given by the race com­mit­tee.
