Football - London po­lice in­ves­ti­gates case of bribery in soc­cer

London po­lice is in­ves­ti­gat­ing a case of bribery in soc­cer af­ter re­ceiv­ing de­tails from a news­pa­per’s un­der­cover in­ves­ti­ga­tion. City of London Po­lice did not name the tar­get of the in­ves­ti­ga­tion by the economic crime direc­torate. A po­lice state­ment says de­tec­tives have “re­viewed ma­te­rial gath­ered by a re­cent Daily Tele­graph in­ves­ti­ga­tion into sus­pected cor­rup­tion in football.” The force added the “de­ci­sion has been taken to be­gin a crim­i­nal in­ves­ti­ga­tion into a sin­gle sus­pected of­fence of bribery.” Sam Al­lardyce was forced to re­sign as Eng­land man­ager in Septem­ber af­ter 67 days in the job af­ter be­ing ac­cused of wrong­do­ing by the Daily Tele­graph.
