Brian Cini wins second ranking tournament
Brian Cini defeated Duncan Bezzina 5-2 in the final of the second ranking tournament organised by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association.
Cini had won the first four frames to go into the break with a handsome 4-0 lead, but Bezzina fought back to win the fifth and sixth frames to keep his hopes alive.
However, Cini won the next frame to make sure of his victory.
The final, played at the Partit Laburista Centre in Mellieha, was controlled by Joe Debono.
At the end of the game, Vincent Pisani presented the trophies to the two finalists.
In the MBSA ranking list, Bezzina is now occupying first place with 2,820 points. He is followed by Alex Borg with 2,800. Cini is in third place on 2,650 points.
Borg wins at N. Ireland Coral Open
Malta’s Alex Borg went through to the second round of the Coral N. Ireland Open yesterday when he defeated Dechawat Poomjaeng of Thailand 4-2.
After winning the first frame 57-16, Poomjaeng took a 2-1 lead also thanks to a break of 82 in the third frame, but Borg levelled at two-all, winning the fourth frame convincingly. The Maltese boy continued with his recovery as he went on to win the next two frames clinching victory with breaks of 66 in the fifth frame and a 54 in the sixth.
Borg now meets Kurt Maflin in the second round of the tournament.
