Brian Cini wins sec­ond rank­ing tour­na­ment

Brian Cini de­feated Dun­can Bezzina 5-2 in the fi­nal of the sec­ond rank­ing tour­na­ment or­gan­ised by the Malta Bil­liards and Snooker As­so­ci­a­tion.

Cini had won the first four frames to go into the break with a hand­some 4-0 lead, but Bezzina fought back to win the fifth and sixth frames to keep his hopes alive.

How­ever, Cini won the next frame to make sure of his vic­tory.

The fi­nal, played at the Par­tit Laburista Cen­tre in Mel­lieha, was con­trolled by Joe De­bono.

At the end of the game, Vin­cent Pisani pre­sented the tro­phies to the two fi­nal­ists.

In the MBSA rank­ing list, Bezzina is now oc­cu­py­ing first place with 2,820 points. He is fol­lowed by Alex Borg with 2,800. Cini is in third place on 2,650 points.

Borg wins at N. Ire­land Coral Open

Malta’s Alex Borg went through to the sec­ond round of the Coral N. Ire­land Open yes­ter­day when he de­feated Dechawat Poom­jaeng of Thai­land 4-2.

After win­ning the first frame 57-16, Poom­jaeng took a 2-1 lead also thanks to a break of 82 in the third frame, but Borg lev­elled at two-all, win­ning the fourth frame con­vinc­ingly. The Mal­tese boy con­tin­ued with his re­cov­ery as he went on to win the next two frames clinch­ing vic­tory with breaks of 66 in the fifth frame and a 54 in the sixth.

Borg now meets Kurt Maflin in the sec­ond round of the tour­na­ment.
