The Arts Council Malta yesterday announced the death of lyricist Sunny Aquilina, aged 70.

Sunny Aquilina contributed extensively to the local music and literary scenes. His award-winning work was recognised both locally and internationally, the council said.

The council acknowledged Sunny’s cultural contribution for its artistic merits and his commitment to community involvement, especially at his birthplace, Cospicua.

Sunny Aquilina’s loss will be deeply felt by the Maltese musical, literary and media sectors.

Among other songs, Sunny Aquilina wrote My Dream and The One that I Love, with which Thea Garrett and Chiara represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest.
