Three students, teacher suspended after sexual abuse claims
Three students and a teacher have been suspended after a 14-year-old girl claimed she was sexually abused in a classroom at the Hamrun secondary school.
Police are investigating claims that the teacher, aged 32, participated in the alleged abuse by holding the girl while three teenage boys sexually abused her.
The police have widened their investigation into at least three other reports of similar crimes in the same school, all committed since the start of the scholastic year.
Reports have surfaced that another female student was locked in a classroom with the same teacher and other boys who molested her.
One of the students is believed to be known to the police for various traffic violations in the past months in spite of his not being of legal age to drive.
The Education Ministry has said that an investigation is being carried out, with the Malta Union of Teachers coming out in defence of the teacher, saying that there should be no trial by the media.
