Last gasp win­ner for Melita

Melita brought an end to their se­ries of neg­a­tive per­for­mances by beat­ing Rabat Ajax 1-0, thus ob­tain­ing a very cru­cial vic­tory con­sid­er­ing they oc­cupy the last spot on the grid.

It was a very dra­matic vic­tory for Melita, who man­aged to find the back of the net thanks to sub­sti­tute To­ri­ano Sin­gle­ton just sec­onds be­fore stop­page time.

On 27 min­utes, Rabat could have forged ahead, when Adam Smeir was fouled in the area Kurt Pace, and the ref­eree awarded a penalty. Yet from the spot, Smeir’s ef­fort was bril­liantly saved by Ni­cholas Grima.

In the end it was To­ri­ano Sin­gle­ton who man­aged to break the dead­lock and earn three im­por­tant points for Melita, who beat Sean Mintoff with a low ef­fort.
