Ath­leta in con­trol against de­pleted Luxol

The two sides were meet­ing each other for the first time this sea­son with Ath­leta get­ting the win­ning ver­dict.

Luxol were a de­pleted out­fit hav­ing to make do with­out Marco Mer­cieca CJ Cor­dina and Jamie Wil­loughby. Ex­cept for an early Pierce Cump­stone trey for Luxol it was Ath­leta lead­ing all the way once they got go­ing.

Wil­liam Ahlberg also net­ted a triple for the Vi­o­lets but Ath­leta had made up a 7-0 run with a Peter Shoults trey and he added two more triples till the end of the ses­sion as his side es­tab­lished an ad­van­tage.

JP Schem­bri sank a Luxol trey at the start of the sec­ond pe­riod but Ath­leta didn't take long to open their lead yet again into dou­ble fig­ures. Schem­bri netetd a sec­ond triple but Josiah white­head Rod­er­ick Vella and Shoults’ hoops kept their side on a steady ad­van­tage with Billy Zam­mit com­ing on court to make his triple for a 34-24 half­time ad­van­tage.

Af­ter the break, it was Ahlberg with another trey for the Vi­o­lets with David Camil­leri do­ing the same for Ath­leta. Luxol man­aged a de­cent 8-1 run as Schem­bri net­ted his third trey but Ath­leta’s lead didn’t vary much as they were 48-39 ahead.

In the last quar­ter Ath­leta pushed for­ward and made up an 8-2 run go­ing clear of their ad­ver­saries.

The play at ei­ther end went a notch down as Ahlberg again and Zam­mit net­ted their re­spec­tive triples for both sides. There were fur­ther iso­lated hoops for the two sides till the end of the match with Ath­leta keep­ing a tight hold to emerge com­fort­able vic­tors.
