J. White­head, C. Grima and K. Thomp­son named play­ers of month

Gżira Ath­leta have con­sol­i­dated their po­si­tion as a force in Mal­tese Basketball, win­ning the St James Basketball Shields in all se­nior di­vi­sions.

Josiah White­head won the award for the BOV Men’s First Di­vi­sion, Christina Grima won the Women’s award and Kwame Thomp­son won the award for the BOV Men’s 2nd Di­vi­sion award.

White­head was the top scorer in the BOV Men’s 1st Di­vi­sion with 103 points from 4 games (25.75 ppg) av­er­ag­ing 62% from the field with 40 from 65 at­tempts. Christina Grima was the top fe­male 3 point scorer with 11 bas­kets from 27 at­tempts (41%) dur­ing the month of Oc­to­ber. This is Christina’s 4th in­di­vid­ual award in her ca­reer.

Kwame Thomp­son scored 131 points in 4 matches (32.75 ppg) with 69% from the free throw line (22/32) and 62% from the field (50/81).

Peter Perotti, Chief Of­fi­cer at Bank of Val­letta pre­sented a com­mem­o­ra­tive plaque to the win­ners in the pres­ence of Paul Sul­tana, Pres­i­dent of the Malta Basketball As­so­ci­a­tion.

Bank of Val­letta is a ma­jor sup­porter of sport­ing ini­tia­tives in Malta and can trace its re­la­tion­ship with the Malta Basketball As­so­ci­a­tion back to the 1970’s.
