Eight drug overdose deaths in 2015
Eight people died from drug overdoses last year, Health Minister Chris Fearne said yesterday in reply to a parliamentary question from PN MP Claudio Grech.
Mr Fearne said updated figures for 2016 were not yet available because toxicology tests took a long time to be completed.
In reply to another PQ, the Health Minister said 783,309 syringes were given out by the NHS in the period between January and October 2016.
Syringes are given to diabetics and people who suffer from other medical conditions as well as to people who have a drug problem.
Mr Fearne also said that the Health Department has started supplying sharp containers to the health centres for the safe disposal of used needles.
