Giesme Choir at St Helen's Basilica
This evening at 7.15pm at St. Helen’s Basilica in Birkirkara, the Maltese audience will have the opportunity to hear the Giesme Choir from Lithuania under the direction of Jonas Zenonas Bernadišius, and accompanied on the organ by Aelita Petrauskiene. The soloists will be the soprano Grete Jokubauskiene and tenor Andrius Apinis.
This choir is being brought to Malta for the Malta International Organ Festival by the President of the Lithuanian Community in Malta Tomas Mikalauskas.
The choir will sing popular compositions by G.P. Palestrina, A. Adam, C.Frank, and J.Sibelius, and also choir pieces the Maltese audience rarely hears by composers such as M.K. Ciurlionis, J. Kreitmaier, F.C. Maker, and H.L. Brown.
The organ being used is the Danish neo-baroque positivo organ built by Jensen & Thomsen in the 1970 and relocated to Malta in 2015 by Ing. Robert Buhagiar.
The Malta International Organ Festival started last Saturday and will on end with a Grand Finale on the 9th December at St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral. Another highlight of the festival is the concert a Bir Miftuħ on Thursday 24th November.
