Giesme Choir at St He­len's Basil­ica

This evening at 7.15pm at St. He­len’s Basil­ica in Birkirkara, the Mal­tese au­di­ence will have the op­por­tu­nity to hear the Giesme Choir from Lithua­nia un­der the di­rec­tion of Jonas Zenonas Ber­nadišius, and ac­com­pa­nied on the or­gan by Aelita Pe­trauskiene. The soloists will be the so­prano Grete Jokubauskiene and tenor An­drius Api­nis.

This choir is be­ing brought to Malta for the Malta In­ter­na­tional Or­gan Fes­ti­val by the Pres­i­dent of the Lithua­nian Com­mu­nity in Malta To­mas Mikalauskas.

The choir will sing pop­u­lar com­po­si­tions by G.P. Palest­rina, A. Adam, C.Frank, and J.Si­belius, and also choir pieces the Mal­tese au­di­ence rarely hears by com­posers such as M.K. Ci­urlio­nis, J. Kre­it­maier, F.C. Maker, and H.L. Brown.

The or­gan be­ing used is the Dan­ish neo-baroque pos­i­tivo or­gan built by Jensen & Thom­sen in the 1970 and re­lo­cated to Malta in 2015 by Ing. Robert Buha­giar.

The Malta In­ter­na­tional Or­gan Fes­ti­val started last Satur­day and will on end with a Grand Fi­nale on the 9th De­cem­ber at St Paul’s Angli­can Cathe­dral. An­other high­light of the fes­ti­val is the con­cert a Bir Mif­tuħ on Thurs­day 24th Novem­ber.
