Man charged with assaulting elderly woman, causing her a dislocated shoulder
A 51-year-old man from Hamrun was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to injuring an elderly woman during an argument.
The court heard that the 83-yearold lives with the accused in Hamrun, Louis Bonnici, although the two are not related. The alleged incident took place yesterday afternoon.
Mr Bonnici was accused of causing serious injury to the woman, the crime being aggravated due to her age. He was also charged with causing an elderly person to suffer under circumstances likely to produce bodily harm.
Inspector Robert Vella, prosecuting, said the accused and the woman argued frequently. In the latest incident he allegedly pushed her to the ground and the woman ended up with a dislocated shoulder.
Lawyer Leontine Calleja, appearing for the accused, entered a not guilty plea and asked for the accused to be temporarily released from arrest. The court, presided over by Magistrate Donatalla Frendo Dimech, rejected the request and Mr Bonnici was remanded in custody.
