Following a preliminary investigation on the incidents which arose during the counting of votes is elections for the Kunsill Studenti MCAST (KSM) held this week, MCAST decided to annul the elections in those institutes where discrepancies were found during the reconciliation of registered students and votes cast.
In such cases fresh elections will be held in the particular institutes where such discrepancies were found.
In those institutes were such issues did not arise and elections were held regularly, votes will be counted as per regular procedure.
MCAST said it will hold a meeting early next week for all student bodies contesting the elections to explain the way forward in this regard. MCAST will also conduct further investigations with regards to the way elections were conducted in particular institutes and will take appropriate measures accordingly.
Earlier, one of the student organisations, SDM, said it is highly disappointed with the lack of conformity to standard electoral procedure at the Kunsill Studenti MCAST Elections 2016.
Among other irregularities, SDM said it was concerned about the fact that one of the ballot boxes was not even sealed and that no official turnouts were published throughout the day by the Electoral Commission.
