Two youths have been found guilty of propagating hate speech and were each fined €3,000 by a court yesterday morning for racist comments they posted on a Facebook page.

The comments were posted on the racist page ‘Daqshekk għall-Immigrazzjoni Llegali f’Malta’ in March 2015.

Both men commented next to a picture of a black man recovering in a hospital bed, apparently at Mater Dei Hospital.

Christopher Pisani wrote “burn him” while Eric Cuschieri suggested he would replace the man’s saline drip with sulphuric acid (spirtu tal-melħ).

Screenshots of the men’s Facebook comments were handed to the Police Cybercrime Unit and the men were arraigned by summons before Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit yesterday.

Both pleaded guilty and were fined €3,000. The men notified the court that they intend to appeal the sentence.
