Qrendi win nine-goal thriller

In one of the most ex­cit­ing games of the sea­son at the Charles Abela Sta­dium, Qrendi edged St Ge­orges in the best out of nine goals to re­main at the top of the ta­ble. Jake Vella put St Ge­orge’s ahead after just one minute but Dassier Sam­mut and Giovanni galea made it 21 for Qrendi after 5 and 9 min­utes re­spec­tively.

Emer­son Amaira made it 2-2 after 13 min­utes with Dy­lan Caru­ana putting the saints ahead after 24 min­utes, Clay­ton Caru­ana equal­ized for Qrendi on the half hour but Giovanni Galea scored his sec­ond from the penalty spot on 68 min­utes to put Qrendi 4-3 up. Incredibly Aaron Hili made it 4-4 for St Ge­orge’s on 73 min­utes but Kris­tian Galea scored the win­ner for Qre­jdi six min­utes from time.

Sig­giewi smashed Swieqi United by five goals to nil in the first match at the Luxol Sta­dium. Di­dier Sohna scored a hat trick with the other goals com­ing from Eman Ci­ap­para and Nathan Caru­ana. Ze­j­tun re­mained a point be­hind Qrendi when they eas­ily beat At­tard by three goals to nil in the sec­ond match at the Charles Abela Sta­dium The goals came from An­thony Ewu­rum after 14 and 39 min­utes with Margeith Sci­cluna adding a sec­ond on 32 min­utes. Ghaxaq fi­nally reg­is­tered their first win of the sea­son when they beat fel­low strug­glers Gudja United in the mid-West derby at the Luxol Sta­dium. The goals came from Nigel Vella and Mark El­lul on 55 and 57 min­utes re­spec­tively.

Birzeb­bu­gia St Peters con­tin­ued their rich vein of form when they de­feated Mel­lieha by three gaols to one in the first match at the Sirens Sta­dium. Shawn Dar­manin opened the scor­ing on 27 min­utes with Keith Mus­cat mak­ing it 2-0 after 55 min­utes. Etienne Cu­ta­jar re­duced the deficit for Mel­lieha on 85 min­utes but Shawn Dar­manin sealed the points for the South­seasiders on the 90th. Zab­bar St Pa­trick con­tin­ued keep­ing up the pace at the top with a 2-1 win over Marsaxlokk. Kurt Cu­ta­jar put Zab­bar ahead on 10 min­utes with the equal­izer com­ing from Thomas Grech on the stroke of half time. The win­ner for zab­bar came on 89 min­utes through Shalon Di­a­cono. In the Fri­day night en­counter, San Gwann de­feated Mgarr united by a soli­tary goal scored by Wil­liams Abeeb on 15 min­utes.
