Qrendi win nine-goal thriller
In one of the most exciting games of the season at the Charles Abela Stadium, Qrendi edged St Georges in the best out of nine goals to remain at the top of the table. Jake Vella put St George’s ahead after just one minute but Dassier Sammut and Giovanni galea made it 21 for Qrendi after 5 and 9 minutes respectively.
Emerson Amaira made it 2-2 after 13 minutes with Dylan Caruana putting the saints ahead after 24 minutes, Clayton Caruana equalized for Qrendi on the half hour but Giovanni Galea scored his second from the penalty spot on 68 minutes to put Qrendi 4-3 up. Incredibly Aaron Hili made it 4-4 for St George’s on 73 minutes but Kristian Galea scored the winner for Qrejdi six minutes from time.
Siggiewi smashed Swieqi United by five goals to nil in the first match at the Luxol Stadium. Didier Sohna scored a hat trick with the other goals coming from Eman Ciappara and Nathan Caruana. Zejtun remained a point behind Qrendi when they easily beat Attard by three goals to nil in the second match at the Charles Abela Stadium The goals came from Anthony Ewurum after 14 and 39 minutes with Margeith Scicluna adding a second on 32 minutes. Ghaxaq finally registered their first win of the season when they beat fellow strugglers Gudja United in the mid-West derby at the Luxol Stadium. The goals came from Nigel Vella and Mark Ellul on 55 and 57 minutes respectively.
Birzebbugia St Peters continued their rich vein of form when they defeated Mellieha by three gaols to one in the first match at the Sirens Stadium. Shawn Darmanin opened the scoring on 27 minutes with Keith Muscat making it 2-0 after 55 minutes. Etienne Cutajar reduced the deficit for Mellieha on 85 minutes but Shawn Darmanin sealed the points for the Southseasiders on the 90th. Zabbar St Patrick continued keeping up the pace at the top with a 2-1 win over Marsaxlokk. Kurt Cutajar put Zabbar ahead on 10 minutes with the equalizer coming from Thomas Grech on the stroke of half time. The winner for zabbar came on 89 minutes through Shalon Diacono. In the Friday night encounter, San Gwann defeated Mgarr united by a solitary goal scored by Williams Abeeb on 15 minutes.
