Ap­point­ment of Guardian of Fu­ture Gen­er­a­tions to be an­nounced soon

Min­is­ter for the En­vi­ron­ment and Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment Jose’ Her­rera yes­ter­day an­nounced that in the near fu­ture, he will be ap­point­ing a Guardian of Fu­ture Gen­er­a­tions. Dr Her­rera an­nounced as much dur­ing an event called the Foun­da­tion for En­vi­ron­men­tal Ed­u­ca­tion Fest.

The event was or­gan­ised by Na­ture Trust at a school in Kirkop.

The Min­is­ter said that Malta was among the first to move for­ward the con­cept of sus­tain­able devel­op­ment.

He said it was in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, when Guido de Marco had pro­posed the es­tab­lish­ment of a Guardian for Fu­ture Gen­er­a­tions. Dr Her­rera said he would be an­nounc­ing this com­mis­sion in the com­ing days.

Min­is­ter Her­rera also an­nounced that for the next three years, his Min­istry will be hand­ing out a spon­sor­ship of €15,000 ev­ery year for the Foun­da­tion of En­vi­ron­men­tal Ed­u­ca­tion.
