Appointment of Guardian of Future Generations to be announced soon
Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development Jose’ Herrera yesterday announced that in the near future, he will be appointing a Guardian of Future Generations. Dr Herrera announced as much during an event called the Foundation for Environmental Education Fest.
The event was organised by Nature Trust at a school in Kirkop.
The Minister said that Malta was among the first to move forward the concept of sustainable development.
He said it was in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, when Guido de Marco had proposed the establishment of a Guardian for Future Generations. Dr Herrera said he would be announcing this commission in the coming days.
Minister Herrera also announced that for the next three years, his Ministry will be handing out a sponsorship of €15,000 every year for the Foundation of Environmental Education.
