‘Nominating Konrad Mizzi to chair Energy Council an insult to Maltese self-respect’ - PN

Malta Independent - - NEWS -

“The shock announcement that Joseph Muscat nominated Konrad Mizzi to chair the EU Council on Energy is an insult to Maltese self-respect,” the PN said in a statement yesterday.

“The people of Malta and Gozo do not deserve to have the name of their country tarnished in this manner – represented by a Minister involved in the biggest international corruption scandal. The same announcement makes evident Muscat’s weakness who, instead of immediately sacking Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri as every citizen expects of him, the Prime Minister defends them and promotes them in complete defiance of what is right and what people await,” it said.

“If Muscat is ready to allow all this, there can only be one reason: that he himself is implicated with them and his hands are, therefore, tied. The people of Malta and Gozo – who are proud of the Presidency of the European Union – deserve honest and worthy political leaders, who commit themselves to the national interest and not their self-serving interest,” the PN concluded.
