Malta Independent - - NEWS -

The steel girders that will support the bridge deck and that will be placed throughout the whole extent of the flyover, have arrived in Malta from Spain, Transport Malta said yesterday. The authority said eight of the sixteen girders would be transported from Marsa to Kappara between last night and Sunday at night.

The trailers will leave Dock 7 in Marsa at 20:00hrs and will proceed through the planned route that has already been tested earlier this month, that is, from Triq il-Labour, Triq Aldo Moro, Marsa-Ħamrun bypass, Santa Venera tunnels, Triq Reġjonali and Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli.

The trailer will be driving on the right hand side carriageway since it is easier to manoeuvre. The road will be closed in segments to allow drivers to drive through alternative routes.

Once in Kappara site, the girders will be unloaded and welded in place immediately, therefore, access to Kappara will be closed between 22:00hrs and 06:00hrs.

Police and Transport Malta officers will be closing the segments and guiding drivers to bypass the closed segments through alternative routes.

Personnel from Civil Protection, and the contractor will be making the route as well to cater for eventualities, Transport Malta said.
