‘Even the original organisers are not attending’ – Mayors skipping out on Marsa protest
The mayors of Marsa, Hamrun, Paola, Pieta’, Msida, Gzira and Floriana will not be attending the protest that will be taking place this Sunday in Marsa, a statement released by President of the Local Councils Association Mario Fava has announced.
The protest is a solidarity walk regarding residents’ concerns over the crime in the area, which they attribute to the highly concentrated African population in the area.
Fava said that the mayors took this decision based on the fact that the protest had been taken over by far right elements, in fact, “the original group of people who organised this protest are not attending because of the same reasons.”
“The Mayors and councillors along with Local Council Association are continuing talks with the Government to increase security in the concerned localities.
“The government has heard the voices of the Mayors, residents, and workers in the area, and there has already been an impact.”
