Countess Viviana Crespi 1923-2014
Born Vivian Stokes in Washington, DC, she was an intimate of the Kennedy family – as a childhood friend of Jackie and later meeting Jack through her first husband, Henry Stillman Taylor. She led an international life, attending ten different schools in five different countries where she learned Italian, French and German. She married her second husband, Marco Fabio Crespi in 1950 but they separated in the early 1960s. Later in life she was linked for several years with the British actor James Mason. The couple were said to have inspired two characters in Vladimir Nabokov’s book ‘Ada’, after the novelist met them on the Swiss Riviera.
