Early goal enough for Qormi
Qormi Sirens 1 0
An early goal scored by Gaetano Da Silva was enough for Qormi to beat Sirens and notch their second consecutive victory of the season.
It was a deserved victory for Brian Spiteri’s side, especially after their first half showing in which they should have added further goals to their tally.
In the second half Sirens tried to push forward in search of the equaliser but Galea and Agius were not in the form they played their first match against Melita seven days ago.
After barely four minutes play Qormi took the lead when Jose Lucas Gaetano Da Silva was put through by Dejan Vukovic and the Brazilian striker darted inside the box before beating Cini with a well taken shot.
Sixty seconds later Qormi went close again with a beautiful firsttimer from Michael Camilleri that was well saved by goalkeeper Cini. On eight minutes another good opportunity for Qormi with a Dejan Vukovic grounder slightly missing the base of the upright.
Sirens first attempt came on 35 minutes with a Daniel Agius shot going slightly over the bar, and on the other end it was Michael Camilleri who tried his luck with the ball over the bar.
On 42 minutes Sirens were unlucky when a Daniel Agius effort from the edge of the area slammed against the crossbar.
Just before the break Qormi should have doubled the score when Matombo passed towards Michael Camilleri whose shot from close range was blocked by Cini.
On the resumption Sirens had more of the ballbut he game became scrappy and nasty too with the referee having a hard time in keeping the match under control even if he had to resort to many yellow cards.
Sirens best chance came in stoppage time when Giovanni Galea’s close range effort was somehow blocked by Azzopardi.
