Three men dressed as fake clergymen requesting donations
Three men dressed as fake clergymen are visiting churches and convents requesting donations, prompting the Curia to issue a warning on its website.
In the past days, the statement said, the three men dressed as a bishop, Benedictine friar and a priest have called on parishes and convents to ask for money.
The ‘bishop’, the statement said, introduces himself as a man from Cospicua, and the three also ask to say Mass in the locality. They speak about projects they have and the money needed to carry them out, in the hope of eliciting a donation.
The Curia said that these three ‘clergymen’ are not ordained and should not be allowed to say Mass. Neither should they be allowed into certain parts of the convents and monasteries.
Anyone who needs further information is asked to call the Curia on 2124 5350.
