Gold for Hannah Pace at Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire
National Triathlon Champion Hannah Pace added another accolade to her ever growing list when she claimed Gold in the UK on Sunday.
Pace won the Women’s 25-29 Age Group Category and Third Overall in the Overall Amateur Ranking at Ironman 70.3 in Staffordshire, beating off stiff competition as she climbed through the ranks.
Despite a delayed start, which could wreak havoc to one’s prerace nerves, Pace finished the 1.9k swim in 30 mins 45 minutes. The 90 kilometre bike segment followed on a route marked with rolling hills, terrain with which not all athletes are familiar with thus making it tougher. A steady pace on the 21km run sealed the win for Pace covering the 113km distance in a time of 4 hours 59 minutes 25 seconds.
“Overall it was a really good race. Lately I have been training hard so I used it as a test to see where my fitness is at before starting the longer Ironman specific sessions. Bike course was quite technical and challenging but scenery was stunning. Am thrilled to have won my Age Group now that I’ve moved up to the 25 - 29 category and to top things off I placed 3rd amateur overall' – enthused Pace after the race.
Pace’s performance also saw her qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in South Africa. This is the fourth time that Pace gained a qualification for such championships, however this is the first qualification since moving up to the 25 – 29 Age Group.
Pace is supported by Garmin Malta, Eurosport, Starbene, Team Barry.
