Cospicua so­cial hous­ing project ‘pro­ceed­ing at a good pace’

Work on the Cospicua so­cial hous­ing project is pro­ceed­ing well, Par­lia­men­tary Sec­re­tary for So­cial Ac­com­mo­da­tion Rod­er­ick Galdes said yes­ter­day.

Galdes said that over the past weeks, work on the site si that 68 apart­ments, 100 park­ing spa­ces, a child­care cen­tre and a com­mu­nity cen­tre take the place of 3,000sqm of aban­doned build­ings has been on­go­ing.

The ma­jor­ity of the struc­tures that had to be de­mol­ished have been re­moved.

He said that plans had to be amended to safe­guard his­tor­i­cal as­pects, and men­tioned changes to plans which had oc­curred af­ter dis­cus­sions with lo­cal NGOs, the lo­cal coun­cil etc. The plans, he said, were amended to im­prove qual­ity of life for res­i­dents. The change brought 12 more apart­ments than orig­i­nally en­vis­aged in ad­di­tion to 850 sqm of pub­lic open space.

The Par­lia­men­tary Sec­re­tary said that the visual im­pact will not be ma­jor.
