Opening night of 2017 Malta Internatio­nal Fireworks Festival

The first night of the Malta Internatio­nal Fireworks Festival, which took place in Xagħra, Gozo on Saturday, 22 April, was a hit among the locals, the travelling Maltese and also foreigners. This was the second consecutiv­e year that one of the Fireworks Festival events took place on the sister island.

The Gozitan leg of this festival formed part of the Internatio­nal Pyro Musical Competitio­n, with firework factories from Romania, the Czech Republic and Malta taking part.

The Romanian factory TemexSon – Pyro Events Team kicked off proceeding­s, followed by an impressive display by Makalu Fireworks from the Czech Republic. The evening eventually drew to a close with a spectacula­r display by Kamra tan-Nar Madonna TaċĊintura, Gudja.

The MTA reports that feedback received from the general public, participan­ts and all parties involved was extremely positive and augurs well for future Fireworks Festival events in Gozo.

The Malta Internatio­nal Fireworks Festival continues on tomorrow, 28 April in Marsaxlokk before drawing to a close on Sat- urday, 30 April in the majestic setting of the Grand Harbour, Valletta.

The participan­ts at tomorrow’s event are PyroItaly – Italy, Mirnovec Pirotehnik­a – Croatia and Kamra tan-Nar Santa Marija, Qrendi.

The Grand Finale will start with the presentati­on of the overall winner at 9pm by the Minister for Tourism, Dr Edward Zammit Lewis. The event will conclude with a Grand Finale by Pyroemotio­ns from Italy in collaborat­ion with St Mary Fireworks Factory of Għaxaq.
