Malta to par­tic­i­pate in Expo 2020 in Dubai

Malta will par­tic­i­pate in the Expo 2020 to be held in Dubai. This was an­nounced by the Min­is­ter for the Econ­omy, In­vest­ment and Small Busi­nesses, Chris Car­dona, dur­ing a press con­fer­ence.

The theme cho­sen for the Expo 2020 is Con­nect­ing minds, cre­at­ing the fu­ture. The or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee in Dubai re­vealed how they chose this theme be­cause they are seek­ing to stim­u­late and spur cre­ativ­ity, in­no­va­tion and col­lab­o­ra­tion be­tween the 170 par­tic­i­pat­ing coun­tries.

How­ever, the main theme has also been di­vided into three sub-cat­e­gories which are Op­por­tu­nity, Mo­bil­ity and Sus­tain­abil­ity. Min­is­ter Car­dona re­vealed that Malta will be par­tic­i­pat­ing un­der the cat­e­gory Op­por­tu­nity, as the main ob­jec­tive of Malta’s par­tic­i­pa­tion is to tar­get new in­dus­tries, jobs and ed­u­ca­tion, among oth­ers.

“This gov­ern­ment is com­mit­ted to at­tract more in­vest­ment to Malta. It is pre­cisely be­cause we be­lieve in Malta’s po­ten­tial that this gov­ern­ment has de­cided to be part of this pres­ti­gious Expo. With our par­tic­i­pa­tion in the Expo 2020, we will be look­ing to cre- ate new em­ploy­ment and in­vest­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties for the ben­e­fit of all Mal­tese and Goz­i­tan fam­i­lies,” the min­is­ter said.

He also an­nounced that An­thony Tabone has been cho­sen as the Com­mis­sioner Gen­eral of Malta to the Expo 2020 in Dubai.

Dur­ing a brief state­ment, the Com­mis­sioner Gen­eral ex­plained that in­vestors from Dubai are al­ready in­vest­ing in Malta; how­ever, there re­mains many op­por­tu­ni­ties for in­vest­ment in other ar­eas. “Although we are two years away from the open­ing of the Expo, it is im­per­a­tive for us to start work­ing on Malta’s pres­ence im­me­di­ately so as to be able to tap into ev­ery op­por­tu­nity ef­fec­tively. We want the Mal­tese pav­il­ion to serve as a show­case of what we of­fer as a coun­try,” stated the Com­mis­sioner Gen­eral. It is es­ti­mated that over 25 mil­lion vis­i­tors will at­tend through­out the six months.

Malta’s par­tic­i­pa­tion will be co­or­di­nated by Malta En­ter­prise, un­der the aus­pices of the Min­istry for the Econ­omy, In­vest­ment and Small Busi­nesses.

The Expo will be held be­tween 20 Oc­to­ber 2020 and 10 April 2021.
