Malta to participate in Expo 2020 in Dubai
Malta will participate in the Expo 2020 to be held in Dubai. This was announced by the Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses, Chris Cardona, during a press conference.
The theme chosen for the Expo 2020 is Connecting minds, creating the future. The organising committee in Dubai revealed how they chose this theme because they are seeking to stimulate and spur creativity, innovation and collaboration between the 170 participating countries.
However, the main theme has also been divided into three sub-categories which are Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. Minister Cardona revealed that Malta will be participating under the category Opportunity, as the main objective of Malta’s participation is to target new industries, jobs and education, among others.
“This government is committed to attract more investment to Malta. It is precisely because we believe in Malta’s potential that this government has decided to be part of this prestigious Expo. With our participation in the Expo 2020, we will be looking to cre- ate new employment and investment opportunities for the benefit of all Maltese and Gozitan families,” the minister said.
He also announced that Anthony Tabone has been chosen as the Commissioner General of Malta to the Expo 2020 in Dubai.
During a brief statement, the Commissioner General explained that investors from Dubai are already investing in Malta; however, there remains many opportunities for investment in other areas. “Although we are two years away from the opening of the Expo, it is imperative for us to start working on Malta’s presence immediately so as to be able to tap into every opportunity effectively. We want the Maltese pavilion to serve as a showcase of what we offer as a country,” stated the Commissioner General. It is estimated that over 25 million visitors will attend throughout the six months.
Malta’s participation will be coordinated by Malta Enterprise, under the auspices of the Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses.
The Expo will be held between 20 October 2020 and 10 April 2021.
