At last: Standards in Public Life Act comes into force on 30 October
The long-awaited Standards in Public Life Act will come into force on 30 October, according to a Legal Notice published on Friday.
Over a year ago, legislators had approved the Standards in Public Life Act which had been in the pipeline since the end of 2012. This law, which allows the appointment of a commissioner, states that a watchdog will be appointed to investigate claims of ethic breaches by Members of Parliament and people appointed on a position of trust basis in public service.
The Labour Party’s Parliamentary Group had recently agreed with Opposition Leader Adrian Delia’s proposal for Chamber of Advocates President George Hyzler to be made Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, the PL said in a statement.
