Discussion on criminal procedure held
Parliament’s Standing Committee on Law, the Ministry of Justice and Interior Affairs, and the National Legal Institute organized a discussion of amendments to the Law on Criminal Procedure.
One of the authors of the amendments, MP Kh.Nyambaatar, pointed out that the main changes to the law are focused on carrying out judicial review procedures in a fast, effective, and fair way.
He also noted that the two months of investigation outlined in the current legislation was shortened to a one-month investigation.
Under the amended version of the law, meetings of the primary court would be divided into two phases. The first meeting would be to hold a discussion on all documents concerning a case and to ensure that all jurors attend the meeting.
MP Kh.Nyambaatar said that under the amended law, the Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor’s Office would be responsible for investigating cases coming from the National Policy Agency, the General Intelligence Agency, the Independent Authority Against Corruption (IAAC), and General Executive Agency of Court Decision. The IAAC would investigate cases regarding prosecution and corruption, and the police would investigate other cases, so law enforcement agencies and state authorities would be able to monitor each other. The MP emphasized that the authors of the law believe that the new version of law will have a greater impact on reducing human rights violations.
