The UB Post - - POLITICS - By T.BAYARBAT

On September 4, the Democratic Party’s representatives in the Citizen’s Representative Council of Bayanzurkh District held a press conference on the Ulaanbaatar mayor’s initiative to divide the district into two districts. They noted that Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold made an initiative to divide the district into two districts and a working group is studying this matter, but according to the Law on Administrative and Territory Unit, the district’s residents and its citizen’s representative council should make the decision to split the district.

The representatives pointed out that instead of splitting the district, there are a number of challenging issues pending resolution in the district.

The Mongolian People’s Party and Democratic Party in the district’s citizen’s representative council have been fighting for the leadership of the district’s government office to this day since the council was elected in October 2016.

The parties have filed lawsuits against each other for seats in the council. The Democratic Party representatives believe that the mayor’s plan to split the district is partially meant to resolve the dispute between the two parties.
