Disaster drill to take place in Govi-Altai
Govi-Altai Province will organize a disaster drill from September 13 to 15 to test the readiness and response of the community to a hypothetical emergency situation.
A special team led by Deputy Head of the National Emergency Management Agency Colonel B.Uuganbayar is setting up the drill and will provide technical and methodological assistance to the local emergency workers. The team reportedly met with Govi-Altai Province’s emergency department, disaster protection division, special units, government and non-government agencies, and other associated authorities on September 8 and 9, and instructed them to immediately start preparing for the drill.
A hypothetical disaster drill is organized every year in Govi-Altai Province in conformity with an agreement between the Deputy Prime Minister and Provincial Mayor. The drill aims to enhance knowledge and skills of local emergency workers and improve their response and readiness to a disaster or a public crisis in the event of a real disaster. The drills are organized in a realistic, interactive and moderately stressful way for the participants to make it more effective, a local representative said. He added that the drills are usually based on events that happened in the province in the past, or events that are highly possible.
In relation to the general drill, Govi-Altai Province has transferred to a heightened state of alert, following the mayor’s order.
