M.URANTSETSEG WINS TASHKENT GRAND PRIX 2017
The International Judo Federation’s Tashkent Grand Prix 2017 was organized in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from October 6 to 8. Mongolian athletes are ranked second out of 27 countries after winning one gold, two silver and one bronze medals.
Silver medalist of the World Judo Championship 2017 and State Honored Athlete M.Urantsetseg won her fifth Grand Prix gold medal on the first day of the tournament in Uzbekistan. She defeated world number five Milica Nikolic of Serbia for the Tashkent Grand Prix gold.
In the men’s 66 kg match, two Mongolian judokas, G.Kherlen and D.Altansukh, secured silver and bronze medals. Asian Championships bronze medalist G.Kherlen lost to Dmitry Minkou of Belarus for gold.
The bronze medal of the men’s 66 kg went to D.Altansukh by a single score against Artur Te of Kyrgyzstan. He protected his advantage to win his ninth career Grand Prix medal.
Mongolia’s N.Dagvasuren also secured a silver medal in the men’s 81 kg event. In the finals, he faced former European champion Sagi Muki of Israel, but lost. Sagi Muki threw N.Dagvasuren with a utsuri-goshi (hip throw) for a waza-ari score after a two-and-half minutes of golden score.
A total of 183 judokas from 27 countries competed in the tournament.
