M.URANTSETSEG WINS TASHKENT GRAND PRIX 2017

The In­ter­na­tional Judo Fed­er­a­tion’s Tashkent Grand Prix 2017 was or­ga­nized in Tashkent, Uzbek­istan from Oc­to­ber 6 to 8. Mon­go­lian ath­letes are ranked sec­ond out of 27 coun­tries af­ter win­ning one gold, two sil­ver and one bronze medals.

Sil­ver medal­ist of the World Judo Cham­pi­onship 2017 and State Hon­ored Ath­lete M.Urantsetseg won her fifth Grand Prix gold medal on the first day of the tour­na­ment in Uzbek­istan. She de­feated world num­ber five Mil­ica Nikolic of Ser­bia for the Tashkent Grand Prix gold.

In the men’s 66 kg match, two Mon­go­lian ju­dokas, G.Kherlen and D.Al­tan­sukh, se­cured sil­ver and bronze medals. Asian Cham­pi­onships bronze medal­ist G.Kherlen lost to Dmitry Minkou of Be­larus for gold.

The bronze medal of the men’s 66 kg went to D.Al­tan­sukh by a sin­gle score against Ar­tur Te of Kyr­gyzs­tan. He pro­tected his ad­van­tage to win his ninth ca­reer Grand Prix medal.

Mon­go­lia’s N.Dag­va­suren also se­cured a sil­ver medal in the men’s 81 kg event. In the fi­nals, he faced for­mer Euro­pean cham­pion Sagi Muki of Is­rael, but lost. Sagi Muki threw N.Dag­va­suren with a ut­suri-goshi (hip throw) for a waza-ari score af­ter a two-and-half min­utes of golden score.

A to­tal of 183 ju­dokas from 27 coun­tries com­peted in the tour­na­ment.
