Car accidents increase due to snow storms in the countryside
The National Emergency Management Agency received almost 1,000 reports about car accidents caused by frozen or slippery roads, vehicles stuck in snow, and other car-related troubles after heavy snowfall and snowstorms on October 7.
Emergency workers have rescued a total of 1,349 people and pulled out 242 stuck vehicles from snow on October 8.
NEMA workers managed to successfully carry out the following rescue missions:
• On October 8 at 00:10 a.m., emergency workers pulled out six vehicles, carrying 22 passengers, from snow in Mungutiin Shuuduu area in Bayan-Ulaan baga, located 58 kilometers northwest of Tsetserleg city of Arkhangai Province.
• On October 8 at 09:00 a.m., a rescue team pulled out five vehicles carrying 25 people, from snow in Tsagaan Davaanii Ar in the 1st baga of Erdenebulgan soum in Arkhangai Province. Some of the vehicles had crushed into the side of the road due to icy roads and others were completely covered in snow. • On October 8 at 09:00 a.m., 33 emergency workers of NEMA and three officers from Unit No. 303 unit of the Mongolian Armed Forces pulled out 120 vehicles using nine trucks and rescued 613 people. • On October 8 at 09:11 a.m., an emergency team departed to Kharaa baga’s Khustain Davaa, Seterkhiin Khutul, 124 Davaa and Takhiltiin Davaa, and Gonir baga’s Buu Bulgiin Davaa in Bayangol soum in Selenge Province following reports about car troubles due to snowfall and icy roads. Twenty-one emergency workers pulled out 102 vehicles out of snow using four trucks and rescued 443 people.
• On October 8 at 10:45 a.m., nine vehicles were pulled out of snow, rescuing 42 people in Gavshgai baga of Saikhan soum in Selenge Province.
• On October 8 at 4:40p.m., the police received a missing report about a 26-yearold man and 16-year-old boy who were herding in Khun Chuluutiin Khushuu area in Gonir baga of Bayangol soum in Selenge Province. Following the report, the Selenge Province Emergency Department dispatched a search party and found the two men in Shavar Kherem area in Sumber soum of Tuv Province. They have been reunited with their family, according to NEMA.
NEMA commended the 86 emergency workers who were on duty last Sunday, as well as local volunteers who helped pull out vehicles stuck in snow and clear snow from roads.
